The American airline said it found a body in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane after the plane landed on the island of Maui in Hawaii.

The body was discovered in one of the plane's landing gear compartments when United Flight 202 from Chicago O'Hare International Airport landed at Kahului Airport on Tuesday afternoon, according to the airline's website. No further details were provided about the deceased person.

“The wheel well was only accessible from outside the aircraft. At present, it is not clear how and when the person accessed the wheel well.”

United said it was working with authorities on the investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Police did not immediately say the person was a stowaway.
